Sogang University Foreigner Admissions Recruitment Unit
First, let's check the recruitment unit of Foreigner Admissions for incoming freshmen.
Sogang University's foreigner admissions consists of School of Humanities and International Cultures, School of Social Sciences, School of Economics, School of Business Administration, School of Media, Arts, and Science, School of Natural Sciences, and School of Engineering.
Sogang University's foreigner admissions do not set quota per major, and students are selected outside the school department quota based on their scholastic and other abilities.
Sogang University Foreigner Admissions Eligibility
Next, let's look at the eligibility for Sogang University Foreigner Admissions.
It’s foreign applicants whose parents are both citizens of countries other than Korea and who meet the following educational standards and criteria for proficiency in Korea or English.
First, let's see the academic standards.
Applicants for new admission must have graduated (or are expected to graduate) from high schools in Korea or overseas, or those with an equivalent educational background or higher.
The following are for transfer admission.
The standard of academic background for 2nd year transfer is those who have completed (or are expected to complete) 2 or more semesters (1 year or longer) in a 4-year university in Korea or overseas or graduates (or expected graduates) of a junior or technical college in Korea or overseas.
The academic background for transfer to the 3rd year is for those who have completed (or are expected to complete) 4 or more semesters (2years or longer) in a 4-year university in Korea or overseas, or those who have graduated (to be expected) from junior or technical college in Korea or overseas.
Applicant and his/her parents are considered foreigners only when both the applicant and his/her parents have obtained a foreign nationality before the applicant started the educational process corresponding to the high school
course in Korea.
Also, Korean citizens with dual citizenship at the time of application are not considered foreign students.
Sogang University does not acknowledge GED, educational qualification examination (ex: Korean “geom-jeong-go-si”), homeschooling, cyber classes and other such qualifications for the International Students Admission process.
Next, we will check the language proficiency standards.
Applicants must meet one or more of the following criteria by the submission deadline.
A. Score of level 3 or above in the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) by the National Institute for International Education.
B. Completion of level 3 or above at Sogang University’s Korean Education Center.
C. Achievement of level 3 or above at any affiliated institution of a regular 4-year university in Korea.
D. English proficiency certificates: TOEFL, IELTS, TEPS (official English proficiency tests)
E. Completion of high school or university education conducted entirely in Korean or English
F. Others: Applicants who are not able to submit a TOPIK score report will be able to take an online level test offered by Sogang University and submit the results as an alternative.
